| Summitted in a little less than four hours. Lots of ice on the trails, but mixed conditions. Mostly ice up higher, but still lots of patches of rock. I brought MSR snow shoes and used them for traction, but wish that I would have brought crampons (probably steel, due to the mixed conditions) instead. What would have been perfect is those springy "crampons" they sell for shoveling your driveway.
1-2 feet of somewhat packed snow up higher. Had a nice hard sun/wind crust in the early morning, but softened up later.
Leaves have mostly changed/fallen off. It looks like I missed the beautiful fall colors by about a week. Some nice yellow aspen leaves down low, but everything was brown or gone higher up.
Ran into a surprising number of people. I didn't expect there to be so many this time of year. No one else who summitted had crampons, snow shoes, or ice ax, but there were frozen crampon tracks in the snow.
Really windy and pretty cold on top. |
