alpinpeteSuperb route  Sucess!

keeps it interesting with plenty of solid rock and routefinding, but it's even more interesting if your rope gets stuck and requires a haircut, you descend Ulrich's at dusk, bushwhack your way to the valley after dark and opt for a backpack bivy at Ingall's creek instead of returning to camp

Camped at Ingalls Pass, which turned out to be a bit far from the West Ridge (we aren't the earliest risers or fastest hikers), especially since we did the full West Ridge instead of the second gully. Got to the summit at 6. Bivied in the trees at 7000 ft in the Cascadian Couloir.

Date Climbed: Sep 29, 2008

Left my car at 4pm and bivied near Ingalls Lake. About an hour hike to the second couloir. Fun climbing with fantastic views of the entire range. I chose the fifth class section of the Long John section on account that the fourth class side looked loose and dirty. Found the fixed pin on the summit block. The summit pyramid having the best, most exposed and exciting climbing and routefinding. Cascadian descent and back to the car at 5pm.

Hi folks,

I wrote a very detailed trip report for my own climbing journal after my ascent. I posted it as a .pdf to my personal website. I think anyone considering climbing the West Ridge or Stuart will find it very useful. Check it out:

Attempted full West Ridge. Late start, off route, 5.9 climbing in mountaineering boots, night time retreat. A bit short of the top, a great experience though.

bacrossmanNice long route  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 8, 2007

It was a long route, and felt good to be done. Late season descent down the Cascadian sucked, and the rock on route was not nearly as good as I expected. It was a fun climb regardless.

mvsFirst alpine climb  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 19, 1999

My first alpine climb, with Steve Nesland. We got a late start, then were flummoxed by some difficulties on the summit massif. But we loved the long scramble up the couloir, and the weather was great. We decided to wait for dawn when darkness caught us on the descent.
