Climbed from 4X4 TH at S Colony. Great Ridge scramble in 30-40 mph winds. Great views of the peaks NF. scrambled back and got Humboldt. Still lots of snow in the trees.
Crossed over Obstruction on my way between Columbia Pt and Humboldt. Wasn't looking forward to going back over Pt 13290, or Humboldt for that matter, but that's the price of admission to the summit.
This was my first climb of 13799. I didn't know it had an unofficial name at the time but I did know it was a ranked thirteener. Since I was climbing Kit Carson anyway I made it a point to summit both 13799 & Kat Carson (Columbia) on the way.
Well, it was on the way...
On the way back from Kit Carson and Challenger it would probably have been better to reclimb 13,799 than descending across and down loads of scree and talus to the South Colony Lakes!
Climbed with Ben, Tim, and Jim. Ben and I watched Tim and Jim come off of Columbia Pt and saw them traversing on the ridge above us when a huge slide ripped the E face apart. Ben and I were on our way to the face but met up with Tim and Jim instead of continuing on with our route.
Jim C., Eric Holle, Ben, and I summited this one after Jim and I came off Columbia Point. Saw a slide on Columbia's E face 45 min. after our descent. Thunder from the south drove us all back to S Colony Lakes.
February in the Sangres Date Climbed: Feb 12, 2006
Josh Blake and I made the summit of "Obstruction Peak" on a beautiful day, after a long uphill snowshoe and chilly camp near lower South Colony Lake. Awesome views! Trip report to come soon.
