BombchaserRe: Three Sisters Marathon

I saw this on the local news. Did you have to rope up on North Sister? I'm looking at a multi day trip to climb several of these peaks, but not sure about North. Any info would help.

oregonrpaThree Sisters Marathon  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 6, 2008

Successful 3 sisters climb in one day. Prior to this had only hiked the South Sister several times via the South climbers trail. Began at Pole Cr. trailhead at 230 am. Reached the terrible traverse at 850am and then made the apparently common mistake of taking the wrong chute instead of the true bowling alley. Should've known better, especially since I read about this mistake beforehand! This cost us valuable time but eventually made it up to the North summit at 1040.

Descended via the South ridge route and gained the Middle summit at 140 pm. After spending some time looking for my partners lost camera (somewhere between the summit of North and the summit of Middle), we resumed the trek. Ended up traversing over to the NW ridge of South as it looked much less technical. This ate up a lot of time and we summited South at 745 pm as the sun was setting.

Overall a beautiful day with clear skies, warm weather, and little wind. Came down the climbers trail to our vehicle at Devil's lake trailhead.

Plan to repeat the traverse of all three and take the North route up the South Sister instead.

cdogmarathon day  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Aug 17, 2003

I solo'd the infamous marathon in dry, sketchy Aug conditions.
Leaving Pole Ck trailhead around 1am, I topped out on the NS around 630am, climbing the se ridge. Descended the s ridge and climbed the north ridge of MS with a large group of Mazamas.
Topped out there around 10am, then began the LONG descent and walk over to the South Sis. Chose the longer, safer NW ridge of SS and topped out around 430pm. This was relatively easy but LONG.
Met my girlfriend on the summit and walked down the brutal trail to the truck at Devils Lake.
Although things were relatively fast in Aug, the North Sis is scary after July. Not sure why so many climb it late in the year, perhaps the lack of snow is appealing.
Anyhow, a recommended route while there is still good snow cover on the mountains.
Good testpiece climb.
