lcarreauI want to go back!  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jun 25, 1982

This is a beautiful Park. There was an orchard there in 1982.
I can't believe its been 26 years since I last visited. I came
in from the west, which is a dirt (4x4) road from Highway 12 and
Dixie National Forest, in the area of Lower Bowns Reservoir. I
bet (you'all) didn't know that actor Robert Redford was fishing
at Lower Bowns Reservoir in the early 1990s. I know this because
my Dad's friend was a campground host there. Anyway, the dirt
road drops down to Tantalus Flats, then turns north to an area
where a perennial stream (Pleasant Creek) cascades down off the
plateau into the "Capitol Gorge" area of Capitol Reef NP.

tonyoLove this place...  Sucess!

... so much I've bought property in the area! I've done most of the routes on this page in the summer and a few in the winter. Really an under-rated national park. But that's OK- it's not crowded!

d_shorbcool isolated place

Working in the surrounding desert for 3 years, I explored many of the canyons, slots, etc. The Bentonite hills suck in the mud.

Aaron JohnsonAll Routes  Sucess!

I've done all routes currently posted on SP, either in 2002 or 2005. All are fantastic! Capitol Reef is a great secret and a hiker's and climber's paradise!

mountaingazelleVery pretty  Sucess!

I've been to Capitol Reef many times. It's not visited as much as the other National Parks in southern Utah. I have hiked many of the trails in the park but the best stuff is in the places where very few people go. There are several nice slot canyons in the Waterpocket Fold.
