JHH60Favorite hike when I lived in NE  Sucess!

The Baldface Circle trail was among my favorite hikes when I lived in the Boston area.

GrampahawkVery fun and easy trip  Sucess!

I climbed this numerous times when my son was little. Take the Baldface Circle Trail. If it's summer the detour to the Emerald Pool is worth the extra time and is cool because you can jump off the overhanging cliff into the pool. Very cold though! There is a moderate view at the lean to shelter but is good place to camp out. There is a stream nearby but generally not running in July and August so stock up down below. Although these peaks don't make it into the 4000 footer range, there is one small scramble and you will be rewarded with fantastic views all along the top that are the equal of many of the higher peaks in the Whites.

bidwelldkWinter Epic  Sucess!

Climbed South Baldface in February making the almost deadly mistake of not bringing crampons. It was very icy on the steeps and my friend Mike slipped and slid for about 300'. The only thing that stopped him was the impact of a 15 foot fall over a little ledge. Spent two hours chipping foot holds in the dark down the face. Couldn't tell you how happy we were to see the hut. Got away with one bloody nose and a ripped jacket-very lucky.

This was supposed to be winter training, but it was at least forty degrees Fahrenheit with almost no wind; I never even wore a hat. Biggest obstacle, besides a friendly labrador who tried to steal my peanut butter sandwich, was not sweating too much in my snow pants.
