| Instead of driving up the road just to find snow draped across the road near the top, we decided to take the more direct physically challenging route. Straight up from Detroit Lake. A 2.6-mile x 3200'gain climb up a faint trail. The weather was perfect...sunny skies with a cool breeze = no bugs. Colleen & I had never been to Tumble Rock before so we spent a lot of time exploring the perimeter to find the best (only) scramble route.
While perched at the summit we saw a vehicle on the road which was an indication that the road was open...oh well, we needed to get in our conditioning hike anyway. |
