ivyonupWorth the Effort  Sucess!

Hiked Hyalite Peak two summers in a row - not only is it worth the effort, but it is a hike worth repeating. I would like to continue on the Continental Divide trail the next time I do this hike.

long haul with a big load. this was one of many peaks to climb along the gallatin crest backpack trip of 5 days and 50 miles. high head winds all the way, but pretty good weather otherwise.

samhGallatin Traverse  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Aug 17, 2008

Did a great traverse of the Gallatins from Porcupine Creek trailhead to Hyalite Creek trailhead in two days. Summited two named peaks, The Sentinel and Hyalite along the way.

Alcas24Can't believe the snow  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 19, 2008

It's great to see all that snow still up there. Snow the whole way from the lake up to the ridge. I climbed straight up the gut of the bowl using an ax and kicking steps. The glissade down was really fun.

Montana MattPart of the Devil's Backbone 50 miler  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 16, 2005

I did the 2005 Devil's Backbone 50 miler as a relay with my college friend Michael Wunsch. I did the first 25 mile leg and had to tag the top of this peak before continuing on the run.

vcrewpc06First stop on Hyalite Ridge traverse  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 15, 2007

After summiting Hyalite Peak, traversed west around the ridge to Divide Peak and met up with the Squaw Creek trail to make a loop out of it. Some challenging terrain, but the scenery was more than worth it. Beautiful area.

ibeksBeautiful Hike  Sucess!

This is one of my favorite hikes. Easy grade through beautiful forests. There are numerous waterfalls along the trail.

I first went up the trail in late May, 2004. There was snow on a good part of the trail. Turned back halfway up the switchbacks to the saddle as I was wearing tennis shoes, which naturally offered no traction at all on the steep snow.

Went back in July, 2005 for a snow-free hike to the top.
