A solo day trip from our camp at Charlotte Lake. Climbed some combination of a chute on the SE side lower down and what I think was the East Ridge higher up. Route was class 2-3 and there was fun scrambling near the top. Descended the wrong chute on the way down and had to traverse over to find easier ground.
Dayhiked the two Videttes (West and East) during Day 7 of the 2007 Sierra Challenge. Descending from West Vidette, Bob pointed to the craggy and broken up West Face of East Vidette and said, "hmmm... I think there's a 3rd/4th class route somewhere on that face." That was all I needed to head straight up. Much better climbing than West Vidette. Descended the E/SE side. Car to Car time: 13 hours.
I climbed this peak while backpacking in the park for a week. It had snowed/rained 2 days earlier extinguishing a few small wildfires nearby thereby clearing the air. Little was left on the peak on the south-facing route.
I've been wanting to do this mountain for years, because it looked awesome from the photo in R.J. Secors first book. The climb was really enjoyable, & it gave me views from the summit, of another peak that's on my wish list. Deerhorn Mtn.
Dayhiked with Evan on day 7 of the Sierra Challenge. The route can hardly be described as classic, but rather mundane. The North Side looks a good deal more exciting.
