| Two times I have been to this great summit. The first time was on a solo backpack in 1994, one of my first summits in Wyoming. It was still snowcovered and I did not see any other people. The creek crossings were the hardest part. I returned in 1999 for a day hike to this incredible peak with the best view of the rest of the GV Range. A truly magical peak. | |

| I scrambled up to the top of Gros Peak in the summers of 1995 and 1996 while taking breaks from working on trails as a volunteer for the USFS (under a program sponsored by the Appalachian Mountain Club). This mountain is to me a very beautiful mountain, and the Gros Ventre Range a very beautiful range. Gros Peak was the first mountain over 11,000 feet I ever climbed, while nearby Cache Peak was the first over 10,000; these mountains gave me my first taste of mountaineering beyond simply hiking trails in the Northeast. Some of my dearest memories of the mountains come from those few weeks in this area. | |
