| Is there a name for the disease of the brain that causes people to obsessively bushwack all peaks- even those with perfectly good trails to the top? I did this bushwack in the summer and decided it would be even nicer in the winter when everything is frozen in place and covered with snow. Boy- it was cold, my sandwich a frozen block. But the great views made it all worth while. Approach was from the south. | |

| Nice late summer hike, some chilly breezes at the summit. Nice balsam smell at summits, views on the ledges were nice. | |

| Climbed with Black Dome and Thomas Cole via the Black Dome Range Trail from Big Hollow Road. A nice spring day to be out in the woods. Excellent views from the ledge on the trail leading up to the summit. | |

| Hit Black Dome, Thomas Cole and Blackhead from Big Hollow road. Descended Blackhead on N. side via Escarpment Trail - very icy, would have used a rope if I had brought one. Lots of fresh snow, kept snowshoes on all day. | |

| took the escarpment trail from big hollow road. was definitely a lot more ice than I expected, but only added to the fun. the way the viewpoint west of the summit opened up for views of the indian head range was awesome. | |

| From the Big Hollow trailhead I took the Batavia Kill trail to the Escarpment trail, which is a great little hike. FRom there I headed over to Black Dome and Thomas Cole, then made my way back and took the Black Dome trail back to Big Hollow. It was a cool day for August in the morning, and there was absolutley clear skies. Not too many people out there for a Sunday. | |

| Starting in 10 degree F weather at Black Dome Valley the route over Acra point without snowshoes was knee deep. At the top, for a short time, the wind was blowing fearsomly with only a few feet visibility and you would think it was the remote Artic. | |
