Fester351Second Times A Charm  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jun 7, 2008

Just wanted to bag this peak after my first failed attempt in full snow up the register ridge. I took the normal route up the backbone this time, which offered fabulous views.

Summited on 4-13-05. Instead of doing the traverse to the left under Harwood to go to baldy, I went sraight up the ridge. Tagged a summit that I didn't even know at the time was a summit!

benjamingrayRegister Ridge  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Feb 10, 2008

Went up a corniced Register Ridge, came down the backbone via the ridge proper. Encountered thigh deep snow on parts of Register. The backbone was narrow (<18") in some places and corniced in others. An excellent day in the San Gs.

BlackmouthWinter Ascent  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Feb 6, 2008

Took the Devils Backbone to Harwood to Baldy to West Baldy and back. It was one of the nicest days I've had on Baldy and I had it all to myself.

Date Climbed: Jun 11, 2007

I had no real plans with just a few hours to kill after my flight arrived, but made it up to Harwood's summit. It was a really enjoyable and scenic hike, as I got above all the LA smog!

Got to this summit for the first time, having bypassed it all other times on the way to Old Baldy. Went up via Register Ridge (Harwood's south ridge) off the Ski Hut Trail.

kngalaricGo after Baldy to avoid all the people  Sucess!

I like this peak. It is fun to scramble down the scree back to the main trail and is very easy to summit. Almost no one goes there, instead people file up and down Baldy.

A lovely, quiet peak to stop by from Devil's Backbone. Those few hundred yards make all the difference in the world where crowds are concerned. Didn't find a survey marker or register, but there's a memorial of some sort on a rock pile down the ridge from the top: initials and a white cross painted on stone.

I can't count the times that I've just passed this one by. I had planned on doing Baldy and then Dawson/Pine, but changed plans and went up Harwood. The scree was amazingly stable too. Big Saturday crowd on Baldy but had this all to myself!

Left late sat night and camped at 8500' on the ridge from bear flat at 11pm. The city lights are amazing from up here. Spooked a couple of deer (?) all I saw was glowing eyes...hope they were deer. Up at dawn and on to the summit; tagged west Baldy and Harwood on the way to the notch. I have always bypassed these before and should have detoured long ago. Wimped out with my new boots and took the lift down.

It hardly seems worthy of such a large font on the USGS map, but it's hard for peak baggers to resist on their way up Baldy.

Among the fav's. Very accessible from my home. One of the first and many peaks in the Gabriels that will remain with me for a long time.
