| Took a short cut and walked up through the wood directly above the parking. This makes it quite a short day. Wonderful view better than expected. Bushwacked back down. Excellent outing just under 4 hours. | |

| Our group took 6 hours up-and-down (including lunch). I went for the views, and the views exceeded my expections. We saw: Rundle, Ha Ling, Mt Lougheed (it's big), Collembola, and Mt. Lorette. And of course McGilivray. Across the Bow Valley we saw Grotto, Fable, Exshaw, and the Goat. Today is the last day for hunting, and we met a hunter carrying out a sheep. Tomorrow, Pigeon Mountain is "closed to all human use" until June 15, 2009! | |

| The views of Mt. McGillivray are outstanding from the meadows. This would be a good place to lounge away an afternoon. | |

| Hiked up Pigeon Mountain with seven others from the Calgary Outdoor Club before the seasonal closure. It's a good late season easy peak. It had a bit of everything from simple trail hiking, to open ridge walking, bushwacking and even a tiny scramble section. We started from the recently improved parking area and followed the hydro right of way as it crossed below the mountain. After about five kilometres on the hydro line, we turned on a trail cutting through the trees. We were only in the trees briefly though as the trail soon brought us to an open ridge leading to the shoulder between the main peak and lower peak of Pigeon Mountain. We went first to the lower peak then over to the main peak. Our return route was more direct as we followed flagged game trails and bushwacked our way toward the abandoned ski runs and back onto the road near the parking lot. | |
