| Well, I started out the morning by driving from Vegas to what I thought was the Kingston Peak trailhead...but something didn't seem right. I sensed an error (or perhaps a mis-read) in the driving directions had me in the wrong spot - so I decided to leave Kingston for another day.
I then moved on to Shadow Mountain, a trivial peak close to Kingston. Short and sweet.
I then moved on to the Ivanpah Mountain (in Mojave National Preserve), of which I still have a couple named peaks to tick off. Once again, poor directions landed me in the wrong spot...but I was close enough to cross-country it and bag Striped Mountain anyway.
I then moved on to Kokoweef Peak, where for the third time that day, poor directions landed me miles away from where I needed to be. I didn't realize it, of course, until I set out on foot, perplexed, and eventually climbed to the top of a ridge...and spied Kokoweef in the distance. Ugh, I had somewhere to be, so I left it for another day and headed home.
Well, a last minute change of plans had me soon driving to Castle Rock. No bad directions...and the summit views were fantastic. No register found, though. |
