ericwillhiteMaybe not

I've always though this was my first summit but maybe not! I was only 12 and I tend to doubt I did anything too crazy at the summit. This makes me think my peakbagging hobby is built on a false foundation....700 peaks later, should I stop?

Although the peak looked clear from the high trailhead, the final bit was still buried under snow. Awesome views of both Baker and Shuksan from the summit.

I brought my sister and Pavel to share what I found. This is a great starter hike to get people interested in the mountains.

The scramble to the real summit was a little spicy at times. I saw a marmot and a toad. I tried to get up on Bald Mountain. I thought "if Andy Dewey can do it then I can". The traverse across the ridge was no problem, just a bushwhack and some snow climbing. At one point I was following someones fresh tracks in the snow. When I looked closer I realized they were bear tracks. The steep loose dirt on Bald would have been a lot easier if it was snow-covered. I only made it about half way up.

I lucked out on this as my backup plan on what turned out to be a very scenic day. Great hike. I suspect very few folks go to the actual summit which is not dramatically higher than the end of trail at the lookout summit.

Date Climbed: Sep 28, 2008

Hey no one told me there was a couple of YDS 3 moves in order to attain the true summit of this peak. Well I did it anyway and will say this, The views from the true summit are far better than the former lookout site.

Date Climbed: Aug 13, 2003

My family of 5 (including a 13 year old with cerebral palsy) enjoyed this hike immensely. Well, yes there was some complaining on the switchbacks. But all enjoyed seeing our van distantly down at the trail head from the top. Beautiful flowers to boot.

Lots of snow, about 4 feet deep at the trailhead. Got to the summit early so I went over and climbed adjacent Bald Mtn as well. Had an awesome glissade down to Sauk Lake, then a long slog back out.
