| Dad and I decided to hit this peak up while northern Utah was getting pounded with snow. Perfect clear winter day. Once reaching the summit it was windy, and one of my priceless trekking poles was blown off, disappearing down about 300 feet into the east facing cliff of the mountain. It's now a physical part of Fossil Mountains structure... Great peak, very interesting country. One to hit up again.
* Edit *
Climbed again January 2nd, climbed the cliffs on the east face of the mountain. Retrieved my lost trekking pole! It did not receive much damage from the fall, surprisingly. It's interesting how you can get attached to your gear that's served you well. Ended up descending the standard route, stopping midway at some of the fossil beds, and found a couple decent trilobite fossils. It must have been around 45 degrees, sunny weather that felt like spring! Great day. |
