BLongLaBoreas Loop  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Oct 18, 2009

Had a great trip yesterday linking Bald Mountain with these 3 peaks. We parked down at Indiana Creek and had a perfect 10-hour day. We saw a herd of 40 big horn sheep on Red Mountain, reminding us why we are fighting to preserve these areas via the Hidden Gems Wilderness Campaign. Trip Report

Climbed Red Mtn. and Hoosier ridge summit from the Babels' house in Blue River after work. Split a chocolate chip cookie for food. We only meant to go to treeline, but the mountain had other ideas. Nice views of the Tenmile.

Can't beat starting high on Hoosier Pass when there's a bunch of snow below treeline. Climbed all three.

Did all 3 from Hoosier Pass on a blustery winter day. Visibility was poor throughout most of the day including a brief whiteout on the descent! There was a cornice on the south ridge of Red C that we skirted to climbers left. An ice axe would be useful here if the snow is hard.

Went up Hoosier Ridge partway with a group of '14ers.com' members. It was a cold, windy white-out all day. Visibility went in and out and it was a challenge navigating this otherwise straightforward ridge. Ended up being solo most of the day. Windburn leaves a lasting memory, is it spring yet?

Hiked from Hoosier Pass. Beautiful but windy day. Still lots of snow in the Ten Mile Range back country. This one is a great conditioner. Returned to the car from Red Peak in two hours, climbed to Red Peak in 2.5 hours. Climbed Pennsylvania Mountain the day before. Both days were windy in the afternoon but otherwise great. Excellent views from the ridge! Met SP member rjc and his group on top. Great fun and great people!

I left Hoosier pass at 4pm, enjoyed sunset and a moonlit solo hike. I left my Leki trekking poles with the Grivel Condor attachment at the TH when I returned to the TH at 10pm in the dark. Did anybody find them?!
