WasatchvoyageInteresting area.  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Dec 4, 2009

Decided to hit this one up as it is a Utah prominence peak. Followed Eric Willhite's route up from his site, but cut east two ridges south of the saddle for a scramble over some broken quartzite. Followed the ridge northward to the Castle Rock turrets, with some scrambling thrown into the mix. Instead of dropping below the class 4 section between the turrets, decided to just go for it, and it was a blast. Once reaching the highpoint, (summit register is gone) I might have crossed down the south west ridge on private property, however not knowing the boundaries I plead the 5th. Fun but cold day out!

3 of us wanted to work off some thanksgiving dinners so Sp'er Kadee, her friend Mike and I worked our way up to the ridgeline and tagged Castle Peak first, dropped down to the west a bit and then made our way up to the HP of Stansbury Island. We found a nice little register left by SP member Eric and signed in. The weather turned out to be almost perfect by the time we hit the summits. We dropped off of Stansbury by taking a ridge directly to the west. A very nice hike.

Traversed the West side from camp area along property fenceline. Went up to ridge, hiked to top of Castle Rocks. Just droped down west side 100 feet to avoid the class 4. After true summit, continued on to Stansbury BM6553. More class 4 but you can skip it by dropping below and taking the only gully between cliffs up to the summit area. To get back, just dropped down the gully, crossed privite property and went west till hitting road. Walked road a few miles back to car. Check out my map in the pictures to get an idea of where the private property is located. Full report at http://www.willhiteweb.com/index_324.htm

I've been there several times, but not for years. Once was in early January 1990.

What a terrific place. One of the few places on earth you can hike on a desert island in a salty inland sea. Come when the weather is still cool--springtime or autumn--because it gets HOT out here.

Letting the new snow settle out a little in the Wasatch, I took this opportunity to listen to the Jimmy Hendrix Experience (just downloaded to my iPod) as I visited this cute little peak. Nice day. Lots of folks on the island, though. Up to no good, if you ask me.

Castle Rock (March 24, 2007) - I climbed the mountain from the west. It was a steep hike up to the ridgeline. There were several false summits that I had to climb over and fun scrambling along the way. It was quite slow going over this part. All of the gunshots being fired below the mountain were a little alarming too.

Peak 5,927 (March 25, 2007) - This is the highpoint of the southern end of Stansbury Island. I’m not sure if it has a name. Started from the mountain bike trailhead and went up the southwest ridge. Nice scrambling on tilted rock slabs. From far away the mountain looks like it has a flat top but is actually more pointed with a large cairn on top.

Asher and I wanted to get a taste of some summer hiking so we went decided to explore Stansbury Island. The hike was a great warm up and the ridge scrambling was very enjoyable near castle rock.
