Ouch. Despite the fact that the summit is less than two miles away from the end of the trail, it's a long, bloody, painful distance. Still, great way to escape the heat!
Again, congratulations! The bushwhacking sucks... true, true. But it's also a reason that few if any people make those climbs. I can't remember when I left that register there, but it wasn't recently!
Yes, our group made it to the north summit. No one had signed the register yet. We brought a rope and used it for rappelling down cliffbands on the route. The bushwhacking was bad and comparable to mountains in the west desert of Utah!
My girlfriend and I started the hike later in the day so it was quite hot in the canyon at the beginning of the trail, but after we got out of the canyon and headed toward the summit it began to rain and the wind was very nice. Overall a great hike with wonderful views but I'd avoid it on hot days.
Started this hike early in the morning. There were great views especially toward Fay Canyon. The route from the south summit to the north summit was not fun. It took a lot of time bushwhacking through the trees and bushes to get there. My arms and legs were cut and scratched pretty bad by the time it was over. Not sure if it was worth it.
Awesome views and there was still a bit of snow left on the mountain, which made our dog very happy.
Here's the slideshow from our hike up there: Bear Mountain
