San J HPS Western Roundup Date Climbed: Oct 3, 2009
Via Fuller Ridge trail and peak 4 of 5 HPS peaks that included Black Mtn, Castle Rocks, San J Peak and Ranger Peak. Easy traverse from San J summit to this non-descript bump. Beautiful fall day.
Ski via Marion Mountain trail Date Climbed: Apr 5, 2009
Hiked, skied up with Scott via the Marion Mountain trail. A lot of route finding, and too many trees cut that make slower the hike. Great day, good snow, and fun to ski, although short slopes to ski.
Couldn't ask for more - beautiful weather and crunchy snow all the way...OK OK I did break thru and fall into some boulder wells once I passed San Jacinto... :P I was amazed how beautiful the scenery is between San Jac and Folly; truly one of the most lovely spots along San Jacinto range that I have experienced. AND this summit completes my quest to tag all peaks in the range. YIPPEE!
Great day for a solo snow hike. Took the most direct route from the tram and cut down the mileage; loved front-pointing up San Jac's SE slope.
Hiked Cornell, Miller, San Jacinto, Folly, Drury, Jean and Marion. All are great summits, lots of 3 class and summit blocks. Here are my GPS tracks and photos.
I took the tram up and hiked to Miller, San Jacinto and Folly Peaks. I had planned to just go up and try to run out to Round Valley and then head over to Tamarck Valley and do Cornell, but I found the old trail that starts near Tamarack Valley and goes to San Jacinto, so I followed it. I had never been over to Tamarack Valley or Cornell Peak before when the ground wasn't covered with snow.
From Marion Mtn Trail... Date Climbed: Jul 29, 2007
Hiked it solo from Marion Mtn trailhead, nice trail, lots of shade, not a lot of people, but just a bit steep. Great way to spend a Sunday.
Couldn't find a register on top.
Fun Little Route from San J. Date Climbed: Jul 18, 2007
Very enjoyable quick scramble over rock and through the trees from the summit of Mt. San Jacinto to Folly. It takes far less time than you would think when you look at Folly from the top of Mt. San J.
ticked off folly and 4 other summits between dusk and dawn. hiking over the crunchy snow and watching the I-10 traffic on the desert floor was very peaceful.
