| The hike from Clinton reservoir to the Little Bartlett/Bartlett saddle is easy and pleasant. Yes, Bartlett Mountain bears little resemblance to its original form, but the mining has turned an otherwise boring hill walk into a rather unique outing with an exciting little finish. I'd rate the summit block 3rd class. The "summit" is now more than a tenth of a mile away from the location of the original summit. If you think the devastion on Bartlett is incredible, you ain't seen nothing yet. Its little brother, Red Mountain near Berthoud Pass, is even more impressive. Owned by the same company, more advanced underground mining techniques have created a HUGE crater where the summit used to be. |
