| We left Chivay very early in the morning and drove halfway to Cruz del Condor and then hiked the rest along the canyon rim for about 1.5h or so. The weather was crappy, lot's of clouds early and rain the day before. Absolutely amazing scenery! We only caught a short glimpse of a condor deep in the canyon because the sun was not shining. Too bad! But we saw a group of little green parrots called 'Periquitos' in Spanish sitting on some cacti. Very cool! | |

| I had a great time! Even though I was tired at the end of the day, I still found time for futbol in the villages. We got hit by a snowstorm on Cerani at 5300 meters. | |

| November 2007 I spent nine days in the Colca Canyon with my five year old son. We did the Cabanaconde-Llauar-sangalle-Cabanaconde trek followed by the Cabanaconde-Andaua route. In some of the more remote villages, far from the roads, apparently he is the only "gringo" child ever to visit, so he´s a real curiousity and hit with the locals. In two villages, all the children in the village gathered to meet him. They played together and somhow had "conversations" even though they don´t speak the same language. He´s a real hit with the adults too, especially the women. In a remote area in the high desert we even met the Peruvian Army who was on a training camp (?). They were mighty curious about what this gringo kid was doing out in the middle of no where and were quite amused with it all. They gave us a ride to our next destination in the army truck and even gave Kessler their candy from the food rations. | |

| HIGH EXPEDITIONS | Cañon del Colca: Cabanaconde and Mirador del Condor. Date Climbed: Feb 28, 2007 | |
| Left Arequipa early in the morning and head out to Chivay. The bus took us thru an amazing scenary, a high pass covered with snow. Jana (Czech Republic) and I got to Chivay after 4 hours where we had a warm mug of coffee at the store owned by a friendly girl. At sunset we got into another bus (2 hour-ride) to Cabanaconde. Next morning, after spending a night in Cabanaconde, we rode up to Mirador del Condor. We got the best images of this beautiful and magestic bird. I've never been so close to a Condor in the wild, he was flying free just few meters away from us. | |
