another beautiful day in the mountains! Date Climbed: Aug 22, 2009
Thank goodness almost everyone likes to climb the higher, more well-known mountains, because this allowed me to enjoy some Colorado solitude at the summit of Ruby.
Wonderful day, had the mountains to ourselves. Climbed from Chihuahua Gulch and descended south slopes to the road. It was actually HOT down below! Nice area (of course). It's cool to climb a mountain like this a realize that EVERYTHING-near and far-around you has been climbed by you.
Enjoyed a fine traverse between Grays and Ruby. This traverse is no harder than class 3 skirting a couple buttresses on the west side. North ridge of Ruby is a quick stroll from the saddle.
Solo in the fog with neighboring Cooper via the SW ridge. Road was not open yet, had to hike from the gate at Montezuma Road. SW Ridge up Cooper was completely dry.
My son and I had a relatively benign hike and of course we had the mountain to ourselves. It was not enough for the day so we headed over to Cooper Mountain. Interestingly it was covered with butterflies. Apparently they liked this particular summit to find potential mates.
Great mountain. Nice solitude. Date Climbed: Jul 3, 2008
Hiked up the Eastern Ridge. Slid down the snow patch on the South Eastern face. Gorgeous views from the summit and nice to have the entire Horseshoe basin to ourselves for the whole day, we didn't see another soul.
Wife, dog and I. Headed up from Horseshoe Basin to Grays. We were headed for Edwards, but wife didn't feel good, so she headed back. Dog and I descended south ridge of Grays and went over to Ruby instead.
