Hit Freedom first. Made it to top of Freedom in 2 and a half hours. Then it took an hour to summit Shingle Mill. Nice little peak with great cirques on the north side. Some fantastic views from the top. Next person to hike Shingle Mill, please take another bag to put the papers for the registry in.

aprovanceA Wee Bit Chilly...  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Aug 8, 2009

Very fun and easy hike. It took a little under three hours to reach the summit from the Dry Fork TH. We saw about a dozen deer. It was very windy and overcast at the summit. Temperature at the summit was only 42 degrees. Kinda chilly! Wanted to tackle Freedom Peak first, but the weather looked like rain could come at any minute, so we did Shingle Mill and then headed down. Signed the registry found in the summit cairn.

buffgatoTwo in one day  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 3, 2007

On this particular occasion, we hiked up Rock Canyon and took the Dry Fork route to Cascade Saddle. We took on Freedom Peak first and then Shingle Mill, two peaks that could not be more different in their respective difficulties. Getting there takes a little while, but Shingle Mill is a piece of cake. The new trail could use a few more hikers to increase its visibility, but the terrain is gentle enough that the trail isn't really necessary.

As a side note, I prefer the Big Spring Hollow trail for its scenery. When I hiked up that way, we got to the saddle at the same time as a thunderstorm. Made things interesting.

Date Climbed: Nov 9, 2007

I bagged this one after bagging Freedom Peak, since I was in the neighborhood. Nice views from the summit. Easy hike.

I used the Dry Fork trail, but didn't go as far as Cascade Saddle, instead I just bushwhacked it to the saddle between Shingle Mill and Freedom Peak. I started hiking at 10:00 am, did Freedom Peak first, then Shingle Mill, and was back at the truck at 5:30 pm.
