BaarbMisty-rious!  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 30, 2003

My first summit in the UK I think, went up Swirral Edge and down Striding Edge. Couldn't see much for the clouds but it made the craggy features all the more spooky. Hopefully will be back one day when the weather's better!

APennineManA perfect introduction to Lakeland  Sucess!

My first Lakeland fell, climbed on a perfect cool, overcast early spring day with two friends. Ascended via the Wythburn Route (due to public transport)- a lovely, prolonged ascent full of interest, topped off by having a lazy 2 hours idling on the summit. Despite the hype it really is a fine, magnificent mountain.

AndinoGrand day out !  Sucess!
Date Climbed: May 2, 2009

Splendid day on the mountain. Sunny most of the day (lucky us !), yet cold wind at the top. Striding Edge on the way up and Swirrel Edge on the way.
Quite a lot of people but good atmosphere.

A must-do if you visit the Lake District.

It was so cold and windy on the ridge-- but there were children up there too, so I didn't feel so tough.

ascents than I can possibly remember. Best in winter if red tarn face or nethermost is in nick

Date Climbed: May 17, 2007

This was the first mountain I climbed in the Lake District. Probably my favourite too, the Striding Edge path is spectacular.

Not mine. Large party of slightly hung-over men ascended Helvellyn Gill and Brown Cove Crags. August 2003.

NanulsSummer of 2004  Sucess!

After attending my GF's graduation in Stafford we drove straight up to the Lakes and this was one of the mountains we climbed. Made a day of it by traversing the full lenght of the ridge and then walking back to the car along the valley floor. Had excellent weather and enjoyed some fantastic views.

citizen453One of my Firsts  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Apr 8, 1998

This was great fun, one of my first summits ever and first out of the US. Very fun climbing with 'postcard' views. The folks in the area and on the climb were some of the friendliest people I've met traveling.

Date Climbed: Feb 22, 2007

Just up this weekend for the most recent time. Very strong winds on the top, with a fun ice step above Squirrel Edge (with bucket steps).

mountainmanmarkYou can always guarantee a good day on Helvellyn  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Aug 10, 1990

This was one of my very first mountains I ever climbed and I still remember it to this day, drizzle with the cloud base just sweeping over the hole in the wall, clambered over striding edge, with a bit of help at the end. That won me over for ever. Since then Helvellyn is my second most climbed peak, in sun, rain, snow hail, blizzards, hurricanes, the usual weather for the lakes, but come what may whatever the weather whichever the route, you'll always have a good days climb/hike/ramble on Helvellyn! Oh and MountainManJohn see you up there again no doubt!

norm79Hot Summer Day  Sucess!

Climbed via Striding Edge on a boiling hot summer's day. Continued back to Patterdale over St. Sunday Crag. Great mountain.

mountainmanjohnMy Favourite  Sucess!

Not sure but think its the best. Last went to Helvellyn in Jan. Great winter route Striding Edge first, up onto the top, met Alan Hinkes, played around and came down Swirrel. Have done the mountain many times in all weathers......always great to be there. It seems to get the most snow too.
