| I read Dean's route page and figured I'd give it a shot. The first couple hundred yards up the scree directly above the bench on the trail was moderately miserable, but definitely doable. Once past the scree, stick to the top of the ridge, a faint game trail can be followed. Navigate around to the east side of the cliff bands to reach to the south summit of Mahagony. Once on the ridge, you'll have to routefind through gambel oak. Stinging nettle in places was about seven feet high. Luckily, the grasses and undergrowth was brown making it easier to walk through. Once past the gambel oak and aspen, you'll have a pleasant ridge walk to the summit. |
