| We were exactly one mile from the summit when we decided it was best to turn around. We only had 2-3 hours' daylight left, a winter storm system was moving in, and, most importantly, a teammate got VERY sick (i.e. dizzy, blurred vision, occasionally passing out). To be that close to the summit is one thing, but a teammate's health is quite another. We escorted him down the mountain, and he's OK again. We'll go back another time, and reach the summit.
UPDATE: Made a successful 2nd attempt (EastKing's 3rd attempt) on Sunday, June 28, 2009. Awesome 360-degree panoramic views, well worth the ~12-13 miles roundtrip effort. Highly recommended summit climb, but in my opinion it would be best in Summer/Fall (rather than Winter/Spring). We made a side-trip to nearby Sasse Mountain afterwards, making for a 16-mile trek for the day. |
