Bushwack from the East Ridge Date Climbed: Feb 20, 2000
Done as the leader for a 3500' Club outing. We came up from the south on the trail and then picked up this east/west running ridge which brought us past two plane wrecks and to the summit. Not my first visit, nor last. One of my favorites- less "crowded" and more of a wilderness hiking experience. Especially if you bushwack it.
Climbed via the Long Path from Platte Cove Road. A pleasant spring hike in the Eastern Catskills with excellent views from Hurricane Ledge to the South. Very muddy along the snowmobile portions of the trail.
Have climbed this one a few times. It is one of my favorites because of the gain as well as the remoteness. The northern approach is gorgeous. Also, above the snowmobile trail on the southern side is a difficult to find trail that leads steeply up the south side, a fun section with a little bit of scrambling and the best veiws from the mountain. Just a fun place!
Fun hike of one of the best of the Catskill 3500 peaks. Glad to see this page on Summit Post. It's a good one.
Reclimb from the north side on August 4, 2009. What a great approach to this peak. 3,000 feet gain and around a 13-mile round-trip. Took some time to do a little sunbathing on the ledges at the top of Wildcat Ravine. Slacking is good.
Perhaps I should have taken the northern side, as it sounds kinda fun. However I did enjoy this hike, though it had very limited views. It was rather wet and muddy. I located the path to the snowmobile trail, and herd path to the summit fine.
