| While researching this peak, I discovered that people have found agates on the ridge north of the mountain. As you approach the mountain, you see a sign to go left to the summit, or right to traverse along the east side to the "agate beds." When you're treasure hunting, it's never a good thing when there's signage to the treasure, e.g. "buried gold treasure this way."
I recommend going up to the lookout first, and then continuing north along the ridge, following a neat trail that has been blasted out of the rock in sections. As you continue along the ridge, you will see digging sites on both sides of the trail.
We found a few small geodes, and pieces of larger ones. As expected, making small rocks out of larger ones using a pick-axe is hard work, and eye protection is a must. (ear protection is a good idea too, although the ringing is gone today) |
