All right, I'll try to refresh the page. Fädnerspitze is a fine summit, easy to reach and it is offering a really great vista deep into the austrian, swiss, german and italian mountains. So if anybody out there travels to the valley of Paznaun or Verwall give this mountain a try - it's worth the little effort!
Together with Gorfenspitze and Ballunspitze, Fädnerspitze is dominating the end of the Paznaun valley and the village of Galtür. In a way the large summit dome forms the NW-boundary of Galtür.
Galtür was strucked by an avalanche in 1999. 31 people died and many were injured. At the point the avalanche hit the village the building of the Alpinarium was erected: an information centre of the history of Galtür, Paznaun valley, Montafon valley and a lot of things that has to do with the Alps (flora, fauna, people, ...). It s really worth a visit without any deadline pressure, and since you also can climb inside the Alpinarium there is no excuse not to come in when there's bad weather outside ;-)
In addition to the approach from Zeinisjoch (where a signpost to Fädnerspitze was set up in spring 2007) there is a very solitude and panoramic hike along the southern border of the Verwall. For this way you start at Friedrichshafener Hut which is situated NE of Galtür in the Verwall Group.
From Friedrichshafener Hut you go west, following the signs to Heilbronner Hut. Under the cliffs of Vertineskopf head to the south and ascend to the broad ridge leading you to Fädnerspitze. For the descend either follow the way described by Lieven or hike back to Friedrichshafener Hut.
The landlord of the Madlener House, the hut at the Bieler Höhe, told me that there is in fact a fine skiing possibility. For this you start at Lake Kops heading north to Heilbronner Hut via Verbella Alpe. Passing the range of Fluhspitzen you go to the west, slowly ascending W through an unmodulated area. Near Schrottenkopf you have to head S to reach Fädnerspitze.
If you're approaching by car you can leave you car at Zeinisjoch. The parking lot has a fee of 2 Euro a day, and the machine accepts only 1- and 2-Euro coins.
But on the other hand there are some free parking places along the road to Lake Kops, outside of Zeinisjoch, and a lot more possibilites at Lake Kops, 5 minutes to walk.
Alternatively you can leave your car in Galtür and travel by Postbus. The coach is driving about every 15 minutes from Galtür.
Concerning the mountain there is no red tape, but as already mentioned the parking lot at Zeinisjoch has a fee of 2 Euro a day.
Coming from Galtür you don't have to pay toll for the Silvretta Highway! The road to Zeinisjoch branches off just a few metres in front of the toll station.
