Voted 10/10 | Maybe you want to put this in an extra Section ? The Ramblers' Guide: Ben Nevis and Glen Coe http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0002201151 by Chris Townsend Synopsis From gentle strolls alongside the lochs, to the ascent of Britain's highest mountain, this guide offers an unparalleled variety of landscapes for the enthusiastic walker to explore. - The introduction gives information about the topography, geology and history of the area, and describes the flora and fauna inhabiting it. - The main section of the book comprises 30 walks. Each walk has a key illustrating principal features, such as level of difficulty and type of terrain, a route profile indicating altitude and distances, as well as a fact file summarising useful information, such as start and finish points, duration, safety advice and points of interest. - Illustrated with colour maps from leading authority, Harveys, each walk is then described in detail with clear, easy-to-follow instructions. As well as route descriptions, the text gives the history of the main landmarks along the way plus information on the natural history of the area, and is accompanied by stunning colour photographs. Hasn't voted | Hi, great page. Just one small point really - probably be better to list Ben Nevis' location as Lochaber rather than Glencoe. cheers!

Hasn't voted | The CIC Hut is owned by the Scottish Mountaineering Club. Although other clubs can obtain weekend bookings, it is unusual for non-SMC members to be allowed to stay in the CIC hut.

Hasn't voted | Descening from the top of Ben Nevis in poor visibility can be tricky, and a compass and a detailed map of the top is a must (the SMC Ben Nevis climbing guide has a detailed map of the top in it). In particular, because of the shape of the north face, you must not take a direct bearing from the cairn/trig point to the turist path! The guidebook says to take 231 bearing for 150m from the trig point, and then 281 bearing should take you to the path.

| eza | Air access is also possible... | |
Voted 10/10 | For those not coming from Britain, flights can be booked to Glasgow or Edinburgh. I'd say consider Glasgow in the first place, for it's closer to Fort William. After that you will have to take a bus to Fort William or drive following the directions previously included in the page.

Hasn't voted | www.winternet-scotland.co.uk provides probably the best collection of winter climbing conditions reports, including links to the avalanche service and local guides who climb on the mountain nearly every day throughout the season.
