as most italian names for the mountains in South Tyrol it is a translation of the origin german name. In this case the italian name basis on a misunderstanding: the german name Hoch (=high) Feiler does not mean "Pfeiler"="pilastro"=pillar but "Feile", an old term for "Schneide", in english "edge" or "blade" (I don't know the correct italian expression)

The term "Feiler"="edge" in italian means (in a one sense) "lama". This term recall the terminal part of the ridge under the summit that seems to be an "edge"="lama"="feiler"

the north face runs to Austria, the summit is on the border --> both countries have to be chosen.

It's better to write "Zillertal Alps" as the group name on the left side bar.

Hochfeiler is located ON the border of Tyrol and South-Tyrol - The ascent over Hochfeiler is South-Tyrol. The ascent through the north-face is in Tyrol. So it is Austria and South-Tyrol.

So, we could name it now Gran Lama, not Gran Pilastro :-))

May be yes, if you like it! It is not a bad name.

However, there are already so much discussions between Italian and Austrian about the toponymy that it should be better to avoid increasing the entropy :-) Ciao, ciao

You can approach Hochfeiler also starting from Edelraute Hutte (Rifugio Ponte di Ghiaccio) located at 2545 meters in the italian side exactly on the Eisbruggjoch (Passo Ponte di Ghiaccio). You can reach the refuge by easy and interesting walking 1,45-2 hours from the artificial Neves lake (about 1850 meters). Paying few Euro for about 3 km of road coming from the village Lappach (Lappago, Valle di Molini) you arrive to the lake where you have to park the car. Crossing the dam (better and faster than walking around the lake) after five minutes starts the patway to the refuge.
