If you wish to overnight at one of the two campsites near Eagle Mtn, you must get a BWCA permit at the Forest Service office in Tofte.

At the T you need to make a right turn. There is a wooden sign pointing right stating the trail head is 4 miles down the road.

The route is incorrect. Take a RIGHT on Forest Road 170 (also called The Grade).

Also, at some point FR 170 was renamed from FR 153. Newer maps of Superior National Forest all show FR 170, so that needs to be corrected on this page's route map. Nowhere on the actual road does it reference 153, only 170.

Heading north from Lutsen, after turning onto County Road 4, don't be alarmed if some road signs and addresses start referencing "Caribou Trail (Road)". It is the same road for that stretch.
