So yesterday I went with friends to hike Illiniza Norte. The plan was the stay at the refugio, wake up early, and then hike to the summit. We got to the refugio late at night and found it empty, with no electricity, no water, and no gas. We searched for a long time for water nearby but couldn't find any (perhaps luck would be better in a different season). We later learned that nobody has been taking care of the refugio for two years. If anyone plans on going make sure to bring plenty of water for the whole trip and consider these updates to the refugio.
