From Cosho Camp one can hike west (down trail) a couple hundred yards (well before the bridge) to a tree that looks like a flag pole on the river side of the trail. The tree has been broken off at the top and stands no more than 20 feet tall. At this point head northwest (estimate guess) into the trees and continue at that bearing (we flagged it and set cairns). Do not go above 4100 feet. When the trees on the right meet the brush on the left, follow the brush line uphill in the trees until the light can no longer shine through the trees (4100 feet). At this point, head west into the brush and exit it after only a 30 foot bushwack. Continue uphill in knee high growth which will lead you to the main climbing gully.
Skirting the north side of Thieves Peak can save a ton of time and elevation when summiting Kimtah.
