Comment: the south peak - Baldy Peak - is the 'forbidden' peak as it's on the White Mountain Apache lands, but the north peak - the elongated ridge - has a larger 11,400-foot contour and on both visits I sighted and it seemed that the north peak was higher by a couple of feet. Even so I have visited the south peak on each visit, too, to be sure. Although the south peak isn't aggressively patrolled, bear in mind there is an easy access road from the Res side that the locals use to get up (the general public is barred), and on one visit the summit was adorned in new, beautiful Indian offerings. So yes, it is visited... just use your common sense. |
