Voted 10/10 | Mt. Lemmon is also one of the 57 peaks in the continental USA that is considered and "ultra" due to the fact that it has over 5000 feet of prominence. See here: http://www.peaklist.org/USlists/USP5000.html Also, when I was up there, there seemed to be a locked gate that indicated they didn't want hikers up there near the buildings. I found a way but is access limited? Please comment on this. Nice page. | |

I'm not sure if you're technically "allowed" to the complex inside the fence, though I certainly know a few people who've gone there, and at times the gates are open and unmanned, which would seem to indicate that it's not a problem. I've been in there and certainly seen folks that didn't give a damn that I was there. Due to the flat nature of the summit area it's a little difficult to tell exactly where the summit is; the benchmark itself is outside the fence, north of the fence surrounding the big observatory if I remember correctly. | |
