Snow can lie on the Scottish hills at 4000 feet until about May. It tends to start snowing again in October, although it is possible to experience snow showers at any time of year. In the winter, large cornices of snow build up on west and east sides of Aonach Mor, so accurate navigation is essential on the summit plateau to avoid these in the mist.

It is true that ski lifts can take you to within a few hundred feet of the summit of Aonach Mor. However, people without skis can reach about 2000 feet (halfway up the hill) by using the gondola (the only one in the UK). The gondola runs all year round (weather permitting).

Make sure you bring a map and a compass. The summit platau is narrow with cliffs on both sides and it would be very easy to walk off it in a whiteout. The map you want is Ordnance Survey 41, Ben Nevis.
