Probably should add Red Rock Canyon, a Climbing Guide by Roxanna Brock and Jared McMillen, published by The Mountaineers.

My personal opinion of Swains guidebook was that it was pretty crappy. The new guidebook has a lot more trad routes, both old Urioste classics, and new trad routes put up since the Swain book.

Darin,

yeah, I need to go thru. my RR pages and add the new guidebook info. Haven't had the chance yet.

How did your trip work out (did that happen already or not yet?)?

We went to RR in April, and it was windy and rainy, but we did what we could, finishing Solar Slab was the biggest climb. We then went back a couple weekends later and climbed Olive Oil.
This trip we went back, and it was howling wind again. The Strip was closed cause a big sign had come loose and so on. So we were stuck sport climbing in the Calico Hills the first day. The second day the winds died down and we climbed Geronimo. THanks to your route description, we didn't get our ropes stuck, but we were paranoid/careful/lucky I guess. Now we are scouting around for someone to watch our 1.5 year old baby so we can sneak out one more time before heading back to Norway.

Hey Radek,

I just wanted to let you know I added a page for Red Cap, which, according to CP, not just my say-so, is the highpoint of the Calico Hills, in case you want to update the elevation or anything else in this page in any way.

Bob - thank you! This page (MY page that is) needs a major re-work I think...I'll talk to Dow, get his input on how to restructure the Calico Hills page too. Thanks for the info - i will add that part!

Dow obviously knows the area better than I do, but for what it's worth, here are my suggestions.

First, I don't think the page needs a major reworking. The basic information is solid.

Second, I like how in Getting There you detail different sections. You might consider expanding the Overview section to elaborate on those sections and/or list the peakbagging and climbing opportunities there.

Third, or perhaps as an alternate to the second, maybe do what Dow did with the Red Rocks page and break it into sections on technical climbs, scrambles, and hikes.

Reminder-- this is in the Additions section, so you can delete these posts if you want to. These are only suggestions.

Regards,

Bob
