Interesting dominant peak from the east side. It is well east of the divide and looks quite impressive. Good directions and photos.

It was a nice page, Mr. Downey. Sorry you trashed it, but I'm sure Ryan will do it justice. I enjoyed reading the descriptions about the peak because it brought back some good memories. I climbed Horn Peak years ago while attending a youth camp at Horn Creek Ranch. It had to be an easy climb, since they were taking up scores of little campers each week..

It's strange that because I voted before I took ownership of the page, my vote remains. Oh well, I think I did an okay job with it and I can't delete the vote, soo......

Hmm-I thought I had voted on this page back when the former maintainer had developed it. It's the pain of a failing memory! Thanks for taking this page on, Ryan. Great job!

Thanks, Barry. Do you Texans use the Wet Mountain Valley to get to other places in CO, or do you just mean when you're in the area for some Sangres?

Yes we do use this. I just drove up through Walsenberg, Westcliffe, the high road to Cotopaxi, and then on in to Salida to get to the Gores. I also use it for the Sawatch Peaks and occasionally for the San Juans. I recently used this route for San Luis and for Teakettle. I have been driving this road for years. Back in the 80's, the high road to Cotopaxi was all dirt. It's a shortcut down to the Arkansas river. Keeps us from having to go down to Texas Creek or whatever that town is and then drive back up to Cotopaxi.

Ryan,

I am very grateful for all the info regarding the Sangres that you have posted. Through all of your effort and the efforts of other members, I have learned so much about these beautiful mountains. I cannot wait until summer when I hope to return to the valley for an extended period of time.

Hope to see you on the trail(s).

Inge
