You only need the permit if you climb the peak from the University Club's property. The peak is on the property border, and can be climbed for free from south, east or north. Perry Refuge is not on club's land either, and is always used on first come basis for no cost, but Mountain Club of South Africa ask you to leave some food there, as it is an emergency shelter.
