Great page and photos. I'm trying to limit the CO peaks on my list to climb but this one looks too enticing. Nice job.

John-You've been around SP a while and are very active. Thanks for your extensive participation at SP and for taking the time to stop by and check out my little Courthouse Mountain page. Good luck on limiting your trips to Colorado! You look like you'd enjoy a stab at Chimney Rock...Thank you for the vote!

The climb rating isn't that difficult. I'm surprised it has not been attempted more, unless this conglomerate, unlike the Crestones, is questionable. Sounds like protection options are limited as well. Maybe it's TOO EASY. If there's anyone worthy of checking it out, it would be you. I'd be interested to learn what you find. Thanks for the vote.

Kane-

Courthouse and Chimney Rock are clear across the valley, EAST of Ridgway, whereas Blaine Basin and Sneffles are SW of Ridgway. My guess is you were looking at Ridgway Peak, a NW offshoot from the Sneffles range that looks impressive from the Uncompahgre River valley. It would have been on your left as you looked up into Blaine Basin. Thanks for your vote.

Wow!!

Very cool page. Would love to read up more on that chimney rock route you mention. Think I'll try to get the book.

Excellent job!!

rpc-

The books are good in that they mention the routes. I have paraphrased the text content for the Courthouse Mountain page. There is not much more there to assimilate. However, I have not had the chance to look over books that have tech routes and hope to do so in the near future when is stops snowing in Denver! I do know in my previous scanning of tech routes, I have not seen anything on Chimney Rock. I'll certainly update the page with anything I find or you post.

If you do the standard or new route, be sure to submit it to this page. One reason I decided to submit this was because I thought it would be a very interesting page to maintain with lots of interaction. The excitement of going into "new territory" is already enticing other SP climbers like you. I think it will be interesting. Thanks for your vote. Very kind.

Aaron,

I already had the Falcon guide you mention on the main page. Looked up Chimney Rock last night and you did a very thorough job paraphrasing whatever was in there. From your response I'm guessing that the CMC book would not have more info. on it. If you do find some tech. climbing books that get into this climb please be sure to post them. It'll be a while before we're able to have enough time off to make it out there unfortunately!

Many thanks for posting this cool page though and whetting our appetites!!

I was checking out this one again and was wondering as I couldn't find it, how long is the trail and what kind of elevation gain is there? Thanks!

Oops-I thought I was on the Holy Cross page. 1792 feet, just under 4 miles of hiking.
