Did not L'Roi Louis XIV exclaim upon visiting the Vosges, "Quel beau jardin du roches!".

Thank you for your vote. Congratulations for your knowledge of French history ! In fact, Louis XIV crossed the Vosges at the col de Saverne 100 km more in the north, where the Vosges are a sandstone tabular plateau of only 500 m height. He never saw the hight Vosges and the Hohneck.

Cheers Jean-Louis

very valuable page! It seems as if we almost met there last Saturday when I had joined a hiking group of our alpine club!

What a pity ! Next time you must inform me. I agree every time for a hike , or a farm inn diner or both... High Vosges are only one hour distant from my home ! Glad to read that you had enjoyment in these incredibly wild remaining mountains.
