This is a very good page! The Guadalupe Mountains is an area that I would love to visit someday.

I'll have some more pictures in December when I plan on climbing it. Last time I tried we were in dense fog and I couldn't find the summit because I took a bushwack route instead of taking the unmaintained trail from the top of Guadalupe Peak. Teaches me for trying to cut corners, however there would have been no views anyway from the summit.

Nicely put-together page! Maybe put "(TX)" after El Capitan, as done by some others on SP where ambiguity might be an issue. Interesting how much (at least from the signature photo) it resembles the Captain in California!

I added the Texas to this peak so Californian's wouldn't be confused and try to scale Texas' El Cap and find out the 1,000 ft. limestone face would be to kind to holding protection. :-)

Nice job with this page: for that matter, all of the peaks in the Guadalupe Mountains. You've got some real high-quality pictures of them. Thanks for putting the Guads on the map for this site!

I saw you mentioned you left the gully a little too early when you were climbing Shumard. I'm betting that was probably a good thing. I was in that gully way too long. It was very time consuming. Perhaps I was in a different gully.

At least two SummitPost members are going to climb El Capitan in December. Come on down if you can. No concrete plans have been made as to which weekend yet.

Yeah, from what we could tell, jumping the gun and getting out of Pine Springs Canyon early was a good thing.

Actually, some of us are going to be down there in late December - if you're at Guadalupe then, it'd be cool to join you up El Cap.

Check out the new signature photo from a friend that was there recently. I'll let you know when we are going and if you are there, we can hook up.

abovethetimberman,

It is great that you added this page for El Capitan. When I did the Guadelupe Peak hike, I wanted to do the bushwhack over to El Cap, but my hiking partner did not want to and we did not have enough water to do that. At the time, I had no information about doing this bushwhack.

Thanks for the vote. If you ever get back there, you must do it. I only counted 4 people to have signed the summit register in 2003. Shumard is a great bushwack as well.
