Shouldn't you also mention that you also installed a new register, Pete? I like the detailed "register rules" at the beginning......but Nevada peaks really don't need the "register policing" that typical California peaks do!

NM, I see that you posted a photo of the book, haha! Cutting those notebooks in 3rds does look like a good idea.

I did Granite Peak from Hinkey Summit during the peak of fall colors in the Santa Rosa Range. Leaving home in Sac by 1:30 a.m., I drove all the way out here to start up the peak by about 10 a.m. See the photos here of the great displays of gold and clearer air. Brief report, with more photos, on my entire three day, fall color road trip at my THOUSAND PEAKS website. http://webs.lanset.com/pyamagata

I have a standard photocopy for the register so dunces don't take them away or write in too much. All I can do to appeal to hikers to leave them up there and to sign in. Yes, third cut Mead Composition notebooks fit perfectly into a 13 oz. coffee can, nested with a tomato juice can or V-8 can. I get the books for 59 cents, then pay a dollar to have them cut, three at a time. Boorum books cost far more, and are hard to find. I'm sorry the third cut books are so long and harder to sign into, but nobody pays me to do this. Nice to have an ammo box up there if someone can bring those up. Those range about $5 from an Army surplus store, and they are big and heavy to carry up. If I knew, I'd bring some up, but the coffee cans and V-8 cans I can carry around all the time, to place when I find an upgrade or maintenance to perform.
