Interesting page on this rock climbing area. The climbs are rated R or X

Has there been any controversy over its name? There has been controversy over R rated names in Maine. Big ____ Mountain by Moosehead Lake has been changed to Big Moose Mountain. I don't know about

_____'s Bosom attached to Doubletop.

No controversy that I am aware of. I don't think the oldtimers would take to a name change just to be PC. This area is not climbed to much with all the sport routes of Smith Rock near by so it is not really noticed. I suppose BLM could offically change the name or even could have for all I know. Regardless I suspect it will allways be known as Squaw Rock.

Jay,

cool page on an area of Smith we'll definitely be checking out !

Talked to Jeff about this - sounds like a really cool/fun climb.

Jay, if you have a few minutes to kill, you can add Squaw Rock to the Smith Rock Crags group. This way it'll appear in a list on the left side margin with other Smith Formations posted on SP to date. To do this, go to "edit" and choose "Smith Rock Crags" from the pull down menu under "Assign Group" (<-I think or something like that).

Nice page, thanks for sharing your experience. I found it especially interesting as this makes a good destination for an alpine like climb within the park and provides an escape from the crowds. Though the rock looks crumbly, no wonder the X rating.

How accurate is the 5.1 rating? Is the crux right off the ground or towards the end? I want to hike out there for a solo but don't want to find an oldschool sand bag!
