Voted 10/10 | This is a nice page & a worthy edition & that is because I had heard of the mountain before & always got a laugh at the name & wondered where such a name came from & I just want to say keep up the good page & picture work. & perhaps you can give us a historical perspective for why it was called "Ampersand." & over & out.

Hasn't voted | Thanks for stopping in and your kind words. Perhaps you have some photos to add in the future. I for one would have been glad to stretch my legs while driving between Oxford, Ohio and Maine. This would have made a nice relaxing hike, at least my son got to hike it.

Hasn't voted | Thanks for checking it out! Just enjoyed my virtual tour of lots of pitches of Geronimo including the giant belay ledge. I suspect you are writing up the route now.

Voted 10/10 | Great page! I'll try to add more pictures when I find some. I know I have some of Fish Creek Ponds to add to the camping section. I like the fact that Ampersand isn't as well known... people are so narrow in their desire to climb ONLY mountains over 4000 feet.

Voted 10/10 | Great page! Wanted to add that there's is a 1/2 mile trail down to a picnic and beach area from the parking area. Nice spot to cool off after the hike if you want. Middle Saranac Lake.

| Jerry L | Height | |
Voted 10/10 | I'm headed up this way and noticed that you show the height as 3,241' while the Adirondacks High Peaks Region map shows 3,352' ?

Hasn't voted | For pointing this out. I do not recall where I got the original information but the topozone gives the uppermost contour as 1010 m. and since the contours are at 10 meter intervals, this should give 1015 m for the summit but this is still a bit short of what is commonly listed. I checked all the US Geodetic stations listed for the summit and their highest station that I could find was 2400ish feet clearly not the summit of Ampersand. The best I could do with google earth tilta version was 3067 ft. So I will enter the height as it is commonly given: 3352 ft.
