Cool mountain and nice page. The scenery around there looks fantastic.

Do you know what the second largest exposed blathosphere in the U.S. is next to Stone Mountain Georgia? Click on the link to find out.

My nephew visited there some years ago and took a lot of photos of it.

There are two more areas similar to Stone Mountain in the Georgia Piedmont: Arabia Mountain and Panola Mountain. Both areas are protected to shelter the rare plants that exist in those environments--plant communities given up for lost on Stone Mountain. Panola Mountain is now a state conservation park and visits on the rock are tightly controlled. Arabia Mountain is a county park and, while protected, visits are not as restricted. Both consist of low domes of granite that rise 100 to 200 feet above the surrounding terrain.

I've been wondering when you present this fine page. Fantastic photos including the Great Arch-maybe we'll get some routes!

Thanks! I really enjoy visiting this mountain. It's weird how you can't see it until you get right up to it. So much really high country surrounds it that it's overwhelmed by other ridges and peaks in that area.

Nice page. Looks like a fun climb. You should link the rest of the pitures. You can do up to 5 per section.

Nice page Bob... Really like the pic of the climber on the face... can't see why anyone gave it three stars. Are you planning on putting up the other 6 Stone Mountains?

I didn't realize there were so many peaks with the name "Stone Mountain" until I was doing a search for the topo information. Seven! Highest one tops out at almost 5K feet. I may make it to that one sometime.

Thanks. I need to go back. My wife owns land near there, so we're in that area fairly often.

I had no idea there were that many Stone Mountains out there.

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. Also lots of "Pine Mountain"s and "Rocky Mountain"s and "Sharp Top"s and "Green Knob"s, etc. and etc. I reckon the locals run out of names really quick.
