Hasn't voted | Thanks! But I suppose I need a sabbatical right now. The last three were backlog of last week when I had to stay at a hotel with nothing else to do but prepare pages. And now I'm trying to figure out the interactive maps so there won't be too many new mountains for the moment. Plus I have to prepare the Pale di San Martino Group page which will be quite a lot of work.... Going underground now .... Gangolf | |

Hasn't voted | Thanks Fabrizio, I see what you mean and I have had some discussion with Gabriele on the topic. For me it's obviously easier to write about the German names. In fact I wouldn't mind but the area to the north of Ortles-Cevedale Group is a German speaking area so that all of the mountains have their original name in German with Italian translations. Once you cross the Cevedale (which has one summit Cevedale, the other Zufallsspitze) line you recognize that the mountains get called by their Italian name and the German ones just translations (like Cima Venezia / Veneziaspitze). I don't want to stir up a storm here. I really see your point - on the other hand I have quite a number of South Tyrolean friends who see the matter strongly the other way. It's quite a hassle and so far I have tried to always refer to both names so that you can find the summit whatever language you prefer. As for the order, which should come first I don't quite know. Take for instance Rosengarten / Catinacio. As an Itaian mountain group it should be Catinacio and Gabriele posted it as such - but if you look at non Italian (and non German) literature it is always Rosengarten. And for Summits in the Ladinian Dolomites (e.g. Sella, Puez, etc.) Should I use the Ladinian names? You can see: I have thought a lot about this after my discussion with Gabriele but so far haven't found the rule which should apply. I hope you will still read my pages falourably... Gangolf | |
