5 star page. About time this mountain errrr.... mountains were added to SP. You are 100% correct in saying that Emerald is the jewel of the three.

Such thorough work Aaron, and great photos. This is guidebook material. I'm glad you combined these two peaks as one page on SP, it makes more sense this way. I will add the west ridge of Iowa in time. We descended Emerald's south ridge straight down into Lake Fork Basin and hiked back on out to Clohesy Lake for a nice loopy hike.

Kane-What was the nature/quality of the trail you took? We could not see much sign of a trail from above so avoided that descent possibility. If the trail is decent, I need to correct it in the text. Did you read the trip report?

Aaron, I have not read the TR; we ascended the west ridge to Iowa's summit and headed on over to Emerald. Also, we did it in May so all of that talus you see up to that saddle was covered in snow which seemed to help. I recall the ridge to be easy at first (class 2) and then becoming more difficult. At the time i wasn't very experienced on stuff like that but now in retrospect I remember it being class 3 with loose rock, not hard class 3 but normal class 3, and not very much of it either. It was that sharp, smaller talus shit that you find in the central Sawatch, similar to what we found on Ice and very similar to the north ridge of UN 13,545. I remember having to descend and traverse a few rock towers on the ridge as well.
